WHY TACTICAL VOTING WORKS

Should anyone doubt the effectiveness of tactical voting and how it can stop Labour from getting back in through the back door, they should have a browse through the more detailed results from the 2005 General Election, which are here:

There are many, many examples of constituencies in which just a little tactical voting will ensure that Labour do not win the seat next time, whereas otherwise they may do. Here is one such example, Dundee East, which the SNP won with a wafer thin majority of less than 1%.

PARTY ------------- VOTES

SNP --------------- 14,708
Labour ------------ 14,325
Conservative ------- 5,061
Lib-Dem ------------ 4,498
Scottish Socialist --- 537
UKIP ----------------- 292
Independent ---------- 119

Recent opinion polls are showing that Labour are now favourites to win Scottish seats such as that one, which they lost by only 383 votes last time. Yet look at the Tory vote - 5,061. And the Lib-Dem vote - 4,498. That is over nine thousand wasted votes because neither of those two parties had any chance of winning that seat, and that won’t change in the coming election. If just a small proportion of those Tory and Lib-Dem voters could be persuaded to vote SNP for the sake of averting certain national catastrophe, that would be one less seat for Labour.

The Tories may tell you that the only way to stop Labour is to vote Conservative, but that is only true in areas that the Tories have a chance of winning the seat. Otherwise, a vote for David Cameron is, effectively, a vote for Gordon Brown.

But now let’s look at another marginal constituency in which the Tories are indeed the only party to vote for to help save our country from ruin. The constituency is Crawley.

PARTY ------------- VOTES

Labour ------------ 16,411
Conservative ------ 16,374
LibDem ------------- 6,503
BNP ---------------- 1,277
UKIP --------------- 935
DSA ---------------- 263
Justice Party ------ 210

Labour won that seat by just 37 votes. And just look at all the wasted votes for the five parties that never had a hope of winning the seat. If just 38 of them had voted tactically, they could have denied Labour that seat.

Here is another constituency, Islington South & Finsbury, in which people should vote for the Lib-Dems as the only party that can stop Labour:

PARTY ------------- VOTES
Labour ------------ 12,345
LibDem ------------ 11,861
Conservative ------- 4,594
Green -------------- 1,471
UKIP ----------------- 470
Loony ---------------- 189
Ind ------------------- 31

A majority for Labour of 484. If just a fifth of those Tory voters had understood that their party could not possibly win that seat, and had switched to the Lib-Dems, they could have stopped Labour from taking it.

That was last time, but this time we must not throw away this opportunity to save our country from the certain ruin that another Labour Government will mean.

These Labour madmen have to be stopped, and tactical voting is the best weapon we have to do it. Voters need educating as to the workings of the first-past-the-post electoral system, and how they can prevent their votes going to waste to the benefit of the Labour wreckers.

There is still time to save our country from the certain bankruptcy that Gordon Brown is hell-bent on causing. Organised and intelligent tactical voting will ensure that he and his henchmen are dispatched to the dustbin of political history, where they belong, and from where they can do no further harm to our country.
